Proof That You’re a Christian

Some would say a holy life proves your faith.  Some say it is the extent to which you strive to be perfect.  Others think it is how much ministry you’re actively involved in or how “real” and truthful you are with others.

It’s hard lesson to learn when God shows you how little you actually take after Him… Underneath the smoke, stripped bare, ask yourself what’s left. You can be sinless, but if you’re mean, (which I guess technically makes you not sinless) your actions are worthless.  You can help others, but if you do it with a bad attitude, who wants your help?  You can talk about how amazing God’s love is and how much He’s done for you, but if you’re angry and hateful toward others, how does that show anyone how great God’s love is?  If anything, it turns people away from wanting to know what God is even about and gives Him a bad name.

If we call ourselves Christians and can’t go through life and its many trials, hurts, and failures, being KIND, it makes sense that God probably wants nothing to do with us.  I hope because of crude and hurtful words I’ve said out of anger and bitterness for many years—even when they were well-deserved, or when I thought being “brutally honest” was necessary—God doesn’t tell me those dreadful words, “I never knew you.”

In my mere 25 years, I have learned that the best PROOF of your Christianity is simply being kind.  I share this because it is a lesson I’m presently learning and it hurts!  But here are some things that I learned that make it an exciting and attainable goal, to learn and sow kindness in ALL areas of my life, even in the areas I truly would rather sow seeds of fat, bumpy gourds.

  • True repentance and CHANGE in someone’s life comes from the goodness of God, not judgment, condemnation, or hatefulness. Romans 2:4
  • Kindness is one of the very few ways to show you have the Fruit of the Holy Spirit. Galatians 5:22-23
  • Love is not love at all, without kindness. 2 Peter 1:5-7
  • A Godly woman who has wisdom shows it with kindness. Proverbs 31:26

Kindness is the best and most profitable way to show Jesus to an angry, rebellious, and sick world. Let’s do our part as we claim to be a child of God’s and sow the seed that will bring forth the most fruit.

If Jesus can ask God to forgive the very people hanging Him on the cross, AS they were hanging Him, the least we can do is be KIND to even the ugliest people.
